Catching Chickens

Jenifer hit the wall Wednesday. The yard birds had to go.

It started off innocently enough this summer. Some of our old hens would migrate from their wagon, hang around in the yard and woods during the day, and then go back home.

Then a couple of them started roosting on the back porch. That was kind of neat.

Within two weeks, we have 15 old hens roosting on the back porch, front porch, and carport…

Chickens crap mostly at night, while roosting. Hence, our front porch, back porch, and carport is a mess every morning. Jenifer has been cleaning it up everyday but she has grown extremely tired of it.

Jenifer spent Wednesday morning cleaning out one of our chicken wagons to house these chickens.

The last straw was Wednesday afternoon. Levi got home from school, went to the house, and then came back to report to us, as we are spreading leaf compost in the garlic patch… That the dogs had nosed open the back door and there were 3 chickens in the house.

10 pm Wednesday night. I am catching chickens off the front and back porch and out of the carport and toting them to the chicken wagon, which will be moved 200+ yards from the house in the morning.
